Initial Consultation

Each consultation begins with a comprehensive evaluation of your current challenges, life story, strengths, and hopes. Following this evaluation, you and Dr. Kaplan will come up with a treatment plan together based on your unique goals and needs.

Individual Psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is most helpful when sessions occur at least weekly.  Sometimes, Dr. Kaplan will recommend meeting for psychotherapy multiple times per week in order for you to achieve meaningful and lasting benefits.  Each psychotherapy session lasts for 50 minutes.

Medication

For many psychiatric conditions, combining medications and therapy can lead to faster improvement.  Dr. Kaplan prescribes psychiatric medication based on your individual needs and preferences.  Often, Dr. Kaplan provides psychotherapy and medication together.  Sometimes, Dr. Kaplan also sees patients for medication management only, particularly if a patient is already connected to another therapist.  Medication-only sessions last for either 25 or 50 minutes.

Consultation for New Parents

Dr. Kaplan provides consultations for difficulties related to parenting infants and toddlers.  These consultations include not only meeting with the caregiver individually but also observing the child and caregiver together.  Based on this assessment, Dr. Kaplan offers recommendations for changes at home, and she sometimes suggests a specialized type of psychotherapy to strengthen the bonds between baby and caregiver.
